Calgary Moving tips
from Calgary Professional Movers!
Moving
can be a stressful experience, especially in Calgary
where the weather is not always especially pleasant...Calgary
winters are known to be very cold and rough making moving
in that season particularly more difficult than usual. We recommend you
move in the summer time if possible but since things don't always work
out that way here are a few winter moving tips.
After a Calgary snow
storm
Reserve a parking spot for the moving truck, you
don’t' want movers
to walk around obstacles of slush and snow with you valuable belongings
in their hands. In advance, put some salt or sand near where you will
expect the tail gate of the moving truck to stand,
we might use a ramp and we might not, will all depend on the current
weather situation, however, the movers
will need traction either way. Make a clear path to the house at ALL
entrances; most furnishings will fit thought the front door but some
might have to be taken in your home using alternate routes.
Moving inside the house
Be careful what kind protection you will us on your
carpets, the wrong material will make the movers
slip and risk damaging your belongings in addition to offering very
little adequate protection. Cardboard boxes laid in a clear path should
be used, you should also make sure that every cardboard
box
that is overlapping each other is tightly tapped and preferable
stapled. The boxes should overlap with the grain, by this we mean that
they should be arranged in order to make it easier to roll things from
the outside to the inside. Never use garbage bags or poly-pore plastic
to cover the floors or carpet, they will tear and
make the movers trip.
Follow these simple tips and even the hardiest of Calgary
winters shouldn't disturb your move too much, keep some hot chocolate
handy for the movers also, it's always appreciate
Packing Supplies For Calgary Winter Moves
One very important aspect of moving is the packing service and the
packing supplies used to get it done. Always make sure to keep boxes
away from the slush or wet surfaces, this will cause the bottom of the
carton to break open and release the contents of the box on the
ground....if you are not luck some electronic items might also be
present...and they will also fall in the slush or snow and get ruined!

Calgary Moving Rates
Moving can be billed in three ways, by the hour, flat rate or by the load.
Billing by the hour is recommended for Calgary to Calgary moves, especially in the downtown area, the rates for 2 men and the truck is $(Please call or email us for details) per hour. An average one bedroom apartment takes between 4-6 hours. If you require additional packing services before the move, the rate is $(Please call us or email us for details) per hour for 2 professional packers. It takes about 2-3 hours to pack an average one bedroom apartment. While it may seem like the packing service is adding to the cost of the move, in many instances it will save you money because move execution actually goes faster when prepared in advanced by seasoned professional movers.
Flat rate billing can be a tricky proposition because both the moving company and the client have to come to a mutual agreement. Invariably, someone will get the shorter end of the stick at the end of the move, could be the company working too long and getting a ridiculously low hourly rate or could be the customer paying an outrageous hourly rate because the job got completed too quickly. Flat rate billing is only recommended for people or businesses with extensive experience in the moving industry in general.
Billing by the load is fine for long distance services, anything leaving Calgary to Toronto, Vancouver, Montreal, Ottawa or Edmonton is billed this way. The load is billed on the weight of the shipment plus scale fees and various small extra moving fees, please contact us for further details. Cost per pound varies between 50 cents to a dollar, this rate can change according to the timing, nature of shipment, origin and destination addresses and if you order pack and move or just the Calgary move service.

Calgary Office Moving: Calgary is definitely a booming town. For that reason for the past few years there has been a proliferation of office buildings being constructed and numerous new companies appeared on the Calgary landscape. Your company might just be one of them! When choosing a moving company for an office move one must choose carefully. While Calgary might boast numerous moving companies, you have to make sure to pick the right one! In order to do that you need to make some informed decisions. What truck size is needed? How many men? Pack and Move? On what date? The truck size will depend on the office location and physical importance. Small office moving locally within Calgary can use 1 ton trucks without power tailgate with 2-3 men. One load is usually sufficient. Larger offices will require a 5 ton truck, power tailgate and at least 3 men. Should you pack yourself or use the movers? Packing does add to the cost of the move but the insurance coverage will be better saving you money in the eventuality that something goes wrong. Additionally, items packed by professional movers will actually make the move go more quickly and efficiently, in the case of an hourly move, using packing services sometimes winds up costing less. As an added bonus, you can reuse the boxes free of charge the next time you move. What date should you move on? Just like residential moving, Calgary gets very busy at the end of the month, so we recommend you move mid month. Things are more relaxed then, the workers are "fresher" and there is more room for error. We offer mid month discounts, please contact us for details. |
