Choosing A Calgary Moving Company

These days the Calgary economy is booming. This reality has created and opportunity for moving companies to burgeon all over the Calgary Metropolitan area. While most movers might have honest intentions to deliver the best services possible to the customers, others can sometimes be unscrupulous and only in business for a quick fast buck. In order to find and choose the best Calgary moving company it's important to follow a few simple steps.

  • Check Their Calgary BBB record
  • Check How Long in Business in Calgary
  • Ask for Calgary refferals
  • Investigate Insurance clauses
  • View the equipement or office

Check Their Calgary BBB record

While all Calgary moving companies may not be members of the BBB,  a lot of them are, just call the local BBB office or do an online search and find out if they  have any outsanding disputes that are not resolved. If they are not members it's not a problem either because their reputation will be reflected either way, however good or bad it may be. While they may have other moving company branches in other Alberta and Canadian cities, make sure to verify their local Calgary reputation as other locations might be run and managed by totally different staff and movers.

How to minimize the risk of damage claims

Moving is no picnic be it in Calgary, or any other major Canadian cities or anywhere in the world for that matter. In order to have a safe and damage free move, here are a few pointers you can take note of.

Inspect the furniture before the move; make sure to point out any major damage flaws that are present on the furniture to the movers. Please be advised however that in order to be covered by the liability moving insurance, every item pointed out will need to be individually wrapped before being taken into the moving truck, this procedure can add about 5-10 minutes per piece of furniture but is well worth it. I also does’t hurt to take pictures of the furniture before the move showcasing the existing damages done from prior moves or just wear and tear.

Take the kids and pets away from the job site. They are often in the way and will cause distractions in addition to potential hazards as movers often have their hands full with limited vision (carrying heavy items that block their field of sight) , pets and kids can cause them to trip possibly injuring themselves, the kids/pets AND your furniture items…

Keep pathways clear; try to place boxes near the walls and out of the way. Make sure the movers have plenty of moving room to negotiate tight corners and narrow hallways. Take pictures and mirrors off the walls; put plants on balcony or washrooms. Make sure floor is swept clean, dust and particles can make a very slippery surface.

Pack the boxes properly, heavy items on the bottom and light items on top. For especially expensive items have our mover pack the box for you in order to be covered by cargo insurance.

If you follow all these steps you move should be as damage free as possible, for extra tips and information please contact us for further details.
